The Windcall Residency is a nine-month experience with three phases, including one or three week residential retreats that removes most of the outside pressures and internal constraints that inhibit organizers’ renewal, and allows space for exploring the practices that can lead to long-term sustainability in the movement. This residency is offered by The Windcall Institute, hosted to offer life changing experiences to community and labor organizers from around the country and all sectors of the social justice movement. Baltimore Pipeline of Working and Emerging Reporters (P.O.W.E.R) Fellowship is a paid, 3-month cohort and fellows will receive comprehensive journalism training, mentorship, community building opportunities, and support publishing their writing with partner outlets. The fellowship is open to emerging writers based in the U.S., ages 18-25, with a relationship to communities impacted by prison and policing issues. Young writers of color and those with firsthand experience with the criminal legal system are strongly encouraged to apply. Deadline to apply is March 31, 2023. Learn more and apply here.
The Rematriating Economies Apprenticeship (REA) is a pilot, seeking 10 Indigenous women to embark on a 5 month paid apprenticeship to learn the skills and tools to be an emerging fund manager with an opportunity for job placement with existing investment fund companies or firms in the United States. The goal of REA is to increase representation of Indigenous women in the asset and fund management fields and increase the waterway (not pipeline) in the investment of Indigenous women. The Black Trans Wellness Fund will select 10 grantees each month to receive $250. This fund is for Black trans people residing in Philadelphia.
Collective 365 invites applications from individuals, groups, businesses, and non-profits who are seeking grant funds to support Black and Brown communities in DC, MD, and/or VA with a focus on education, social justice, workforce development, and/or health. Grant funding ranges from $1,000 to $10,000, but in addition to the grant funds, applicants may also apply for capacity building support. Words Without Borders recently announced their first annual Momentum Grant for Early-Career Translators to support early-career translators seeking to bring international work into the English-language marketplace. This grant supports “underrepresented” translators, including folks who identify as Black, Indigenous, people of color, disabled, LGBTQIA; non-native English speakers translating into English; translators who do not hold MAs or MFAs or have had some equivalent type of training. Translators working from Indigenous, endangered, and other often-marginalized languages are especially encouraged to apply. The deadline to apply is February 15, 2023. Learn more and apply here.
The Rock Star Fund provides young women, gender non-conforming, and non-binary youth of color (for this fund, ages 12-24 are applicable to apply) a one-time award of up to $2,000 to invest in your own community project or entrepreneurial idea. Womanist Working Collective launched their Black Liberation Therapy Fund, a fund created to provide financial assistance to Black gender expansive folks to increase access to mental health and wellness support. The application cycle closes February 28, 2022. Learn more an apply here.
Dream.Org launched their $1MIillion Justice Innovation Prize to disrupt the criminal justice system and build a world beyond mass incarceration. After assessing your fit through their Applicant Readiness Tool, you must register for the Justice Innovation Prize by Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at 5:00 PM Eastern Time to be considered. The Trans Employment Project recently shared Women Innovating Labor Leadership (WILL) Empower’s invitation to complete their applications to their Apprenticeship Program, a program designed to identify and recruit activists to the economic justice movement. The apprenticeships run for 3-12 months. Each apprentice has two mentors and ongoing support and connection with members of the WILL Empower network. Pay starts at $18-$25 an hour. Following successful completion of the program, WILL Empower staff work with program graduates on job identification and recommendation. Applications are due April 21, 2023. Open Society Foundation is accepting applications for their Soros Justice Fellowships. The Soros Justice Fellowships support outstanding individuals—including lawyers, advocates, grassroots organizers, writers, print and broadcast journalists, artists, filmmakers, and other individuals with distinctive voices—to undertake full-time projects that engage and inform, spur debate and conversation, change policy or practice, and catalyze change around the U.S. criminal legal system at the local, state, and national levels. There are two fellowship tracks: Track I, which is for people at the earlier stages of their careers and who demonstrate the potential to develop into leaders and important voices in their respective fields; and Track II, which is for more experienced individuals with a proven record of achievement and expertise. Track I comes with a grant of $100,000 over 18 months and Track II comes with a grant of $140,000 over 18 months (grants for both tracks are prorated for 12-month projects). The Floret Coalition is an anti-racist collective of small businesses in the cannabis and cannabis-adjacent space supporting and funding equity-oriented actions via monthly donations and social campaigns. Their collective upholds a belief in the responsibility to give back to the communities harmed most by the war on drugs, namely Black, Latine, and Indigenous communities. Eva Recinos sits on their advisory board and recently shared a community nomination form for folks interested in nominating a BIPOC-led 501(c)3 or fiscally sponsored organization to receive donations from The Floret Coalition. The Exploratory Grant is a one-time grant of $10,000 for first-time Carmack Collective grantees. This grant is for organizations with 501(c)3 status, international equivalents, or fiscally sponsored, and who operate within our four thematic areas of grantmaking (Climate Justice, Movement Building, Culture Shift, and Philanthropic Agitation). These grants will provide the opportunity to explore a mutual fit between The Carmack Collective and a new grantee over the 1 year period, and our hope is for many Exploratory grantees to advance to continue on as Multi-Year grantees of The Carmack Collective. Rage to Heal is an interactive audio series aiming to help academics, especially Black and brown women and queer people, access rage as a potent tool for change. This series is written, created, and hosted by Dr. Nicole Truesdell with the support of the BBQ+ Pedagogy Lab.
Gender Justice LA, a member-based, grassroots social justice organization led by and for gender non-conforming, two spirit and trans People of Color in Los Angeles, centering Black, Inidgenous, POC low-income communities, has a robust COVID Resource Guide with mutual aid, reproductive justice, health & wellness, food, educational resources, and more.
The Essentials: Atlanta Trans Resource Guide was compiled by members of the SPARK Reproductive Justice NOW staff and fellows from the 2022 Leading Initiatives for Trans Equity (LITE) program. This is an ATL specific guide for Trans folks including community support, medical, housing, legal aid, and mental health resources.
